Looking back on 9/11, many Americans are reflecting on the thousands of men and women who answered the call to serve their country. Unfortunately, a disproportionate number of U.S. military veterans are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.
As an accomplished triathlete, ACSS Board Member Bishop Leatherbury is about to enter the renowned Ironman World Championship to draw attention to the problem and raise money for the solution. He has set a target of raising $100 thousand for ACSS – an ambitious goal to match an ambitious competition.
On his fundraising page, Bishop writes, “In doing this, I am combining two of my passions – my passion for the sport of triathlon and my passion for ACSS and its mission. Every morning, nearly 7 thousand people in Atlanta wake up with no place to call home. It is a sad and troubling statistic – it’s even more troubling when you realize that veterans of our country’s armed services are disproportionately represented among the homeless. ACSS is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness in metro Atlanta and beyond.”
